Preparation
We had already been thinking for several years about making a trip through the west of the US. End December, beginning January we decided to go ahead with it. We first made a forecast of the costs to be sure that the trip would not be too expensive. Then we rather quickly booked our flight to LA as the price difference is rather big when you book early.

Then the hardest part started. Determining the route and the time we wanted to spend in every location. We started with an example route we found in a brochure from Jetair: “Western Values”. We kept the nicest things of that route so our route is mainly based upon the one from Jetair. We also bought a travel guide from Lannoo and refined our route with that information.

In the meantime we had decided to book all hotels beforehand. Mainly because we don’t want to lose time by searching accommodation once we are there. The trip will be busy enough already. We booked everything via a travel agency because for most things this was cheaper. Especially for the rental car this made a big difference. The travel agent told us we probably wouldn’t have enough time in Bryce Canyon so we have adjusted our route a bit but otherwise he had no remarks.

Druk bezig met de voorbereidingen ;-)
Then the last phase: trying to plan the days a bit more detailed. Such as finding out which hikes we are going to do and how much time we need to reserve for them. So that we don’t lose to much time once we are there with looking up things. After all, you can easily find information via internet about most things before you leave.
